Metropolitan Neofitos today reflected on a historic and blessed moment for the Orthodox Church in Africa as Walter, now Deacon George, received the Grace of the Holy Sacrament of Ordination through the holy hands of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa at St. George Church.
This marks the first ordination of a Turkana by our Patriarch in the cradle of mankind — a truly remarkable milestone in the growth of the Orthodox Mission in Kenya.
Present during this joyous occasion were His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Kenya & Exarch of Eastern Africa, His Grace Bishop Silvestros of Jinja & Eastern Uganda, and His Grace Bishop Phillipos of Kisumu & Western Kenya.
Metropolitan Neofitos also expressed gratitude to OCMC for establishing the Catechetical School in Lodwar, Turkana, which continues to prepare local candidates for ordination and ministry, reminding us that “the harvest is plentiful, and labourers are needed.”
With the Patriarch’s second visit to Turkana, history has once again been written for this humble and growing mission.
