The Patriarchate of Jerusalem announces with profound sorrow the falling asleep in the Lord of Elder Archimandrite Chrysostomos, who for many years served as Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan. He fell asleep a few hours ago in Athens, following a period of trial concerning his health.
The blessed Elder Chrysostomos, who was born in Mani, was for decades a devoted member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre and faithfully served the Church of Jerusalem and the All-Holy Shrines. His many years of ministry were particularly associated with the Holy Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan, which he received in a difficult condition and which, through much labour and personal care, he restored and brought to its present form.
His Beatitude, our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, together with the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre gathered around him, bid farewell with deep emotion to the blessed Elder, in the hope of the Resurrection and according to the words of the Apostle: “Whether therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8), praying that the Lord God may grant rest to his soul in the land of the living and in the dwellings of the righteous.
The Patriarchate shall issue a further announcement concerning the transfer of his sacred remains, the Funeral Service and his burial.
May his memory be eternal.
