The proceedings of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia continue today, Wednesday, 15 April 2026. The Synod is convening in regular session during the Pentecostarion period, in accordance with the Holy Canons and the provisions of the Constitution, under the presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
Following the opening prayer at the first session, the minutes of the previous meetings were ratified. Subsequently, the Holy Synod proceeded to examine the items on the agenda and, among other matters, reached the following decisions:
– The Internal Regulation on Youth, prepared by the competent Synodical Committee, was approved in principle.
– The order and service for the Blessing (Sanctification) of the Waters, as prepared by the competent Synodical Committee, was approved.
– The Sunday of Pentecost of each year was designated as a day dedicated to external mission, during which charitable events will be held both at the Head of the Holy Archdiocese and in the local Diocese, with the aim of supporting those in need.
– A Special Committee for addressing moral misconduct was established, under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Christophoros of Kerasounta, Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
The proceedings of the Holy Synod will continue tomorrow, Thursday, 16 April.
