Nearly 400 incidents against the Orthodox places of worship and ecclesiastical sites in the country were recorded in 2021, according to an annual report released by the relevant ministry of education and religious affairs. The number of incidents, 378, is slightly down from 404 reported in 2020.
Incidents includes all types of vandalism, break-ins, thefts, desecrations, cemetery destruction, robberies and even the placement of explosive devices.
The report has been posted on the pages of the Orthodoxia News Agency.
However, as most analysts point out, the recorded incidents are far less than the actual number of attacks against Orthodox churches, chapels, pilgrimage sites, shrines and cemeteries.
