September 30, 2024, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America issued the following statement regarding Hurricane Helene and those affected by the disaster:
“We have watched, with much pain, the destruction that occurred as Hurricane Helene made landfall and traveled throughout the southeast United States, leaving in its wake dozens of fatalities and the destruction of thousands of homes and businesses. As we continue to work with the Metropolis of Atlanta to fully research the impact on the area and on our Greek Orthodox communities so that our Holy Archdiocese of America can offer the proper assistance, I ask that you fervently pray for all who are suffering and to also pray for those who are directly giving aid after such a tragedy.”
