The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, on Sunday toured areas of north Evia Island that were ravaged last year by wildfires, on the occasion of World Environment Day.
His Beatitude was accompanied by the chairman of the Church of Greece’s Synodal committee, His Eminence Symeon, the Metropolitan of Fthiotida.

Both hierarchs attended the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, officiated at the Cathedral of St. Demetrios, in the town of Rovies, by the resident Metropolitan of Halkida, His Eminence Chrysostomos.

His Beatitude and his entourage later arrived at the wildfire-damaged Monastery of St. David the Elder, where he symbolically planted a spruce in the monastery’s garden, before reciting a special prayer for the protection of the environment.
