His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia is participating in the new composition of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, for the period from 1 March to 31 August 2025.
The relevant statement from the Chief Secretariat of the Holy and Sacred Synod states:
In line with the standard procedure, the Ecumenical Patriarchate has announced the new composition of its Holy and Sacred Synod for the period spanning from 1 March to 31 August 2025. The Synod will convene under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The newly appointed members of the Synod are as follows:

- Andreas of Arkalohori, Kastelli, and Viannos
- Athenagoras of Belgium
- Paisios of Leros, Kalymnos, and Astypalaia
- Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronas
- Sevastianos of Atlanta
- Athenagoras of Kydonia
- Maximos of Selyvria
- Makarios of Australia
- Maximos of Switzerland
- Iakovos of Ireland
- Iakovos of Mexico
