His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia reflects on the importance of trusting in the will of God and accepting His timing, even when it does not coincide with our own desires and expectations, in a video message shared via the Instagram social media platform.

His Eminence’s message includes the paternal exhortation: “We should not hurry God’s timing because we are afraid of our own,” noting that “there are things which, if they come too soon, we may not yet know how to hold on to. That is why some delays are not refusals; they are preparation.”

More specifically, the Archbishop of Australia states:

“Sometimes we pray to God to guide us, but at the same time we have already indicated to Him the path we want Him to follow. With our words, we say, ‘Thy will be done’, but we want His will to resemble our own. True trust, however, begins when you are able to say: ‘My God, this is what I want, this is what my heart longs for; but more than this, I want Your will to be done in my life.’ And perhaps then, when you stop demanding that God follow your plans, you will finally begin to discover His plan for you.

“Moreover, patience does not mean simply sitting and waiting for things to change. We have patience and faith when we continue to believe even though we have not yet seen results. We continue to pray even though we have not yet received an answer. We continue to move forward even though we do not know exactly where the road is leading.

“We should not hurry God’s timing because we are afraid of our own. There are things which, if they come too soon, we may not yet know how to hold on to. That is why some delays are not refusals; they are preparation.”
