The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Sunday praised an act of supreme good sportsmanship at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar — when an athlete from Guinea-Bissau, Braima Suncar Dabo, stopped running after noticing that Aruba’s Jonathan Busby was struggling and could barely stand up the men’s 5,000-meter heats.
With one lap to go, Dabo sacrificed his own time to help the stricken Busby complete the race.
Elpidophoros quoted New Testament verses on his official social media accounts, saying “…In this competition, one brother carried the other. They finished the race with love. May we all carry one another, and so fulfill the law of Christ, the law of love.”
