The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, received visiting Greek Education and Religious Affairs Minister Niki Kerameos on Tuesday at the Archdiocese’s see in New York City.
Several Greek Cabinet ministers are in the US metropolis for this week’s UN General Assembly. On Thursday, Elpidophoros will receive Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
During the meeting with the Greek education minister, the issue of Greek-language education offered by the Church’s parishes was discussed, along with closer cooperation between the Holy Cross Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, and the Greek ministry. A joint organization of events in the United States to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence was also discussed.
On Tuesday morning, Kerameos visited the parish schools operated by the Churches of St. Demetrius and St. Catherine in greater New York City area, where pupils greeted her with traditional Greek songs.
