Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, continued to meet with members of the Greek government this week, including Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis – as New York City again host the annual UN General Assembly.
Upon his enthronement last June, Elpidophoros had emphasized that his primary priority will be to defend Orthodoxy and Hellenism.
On Monday, he received and was briefed by Greek Deputy Minister of Citizens’ Protection, Giorgos Koumoutsakos, who holds the migration policy portfolio in the center-right Mitsotakis government.
The latter briefed the Archbishop over issues affecting his ministry, especially the increased number of arrivals by irregular migrants to Greece’s eastern Aegean islands over the past month — people who are ferried over by smugglers operating in on the Turkish coast.
