The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, was received on Friday morning by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the latter’s official office, with reports pointing to initial discussions on the manner in which places of worship will operate during the coming Easter holidays.
The same sources that spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency added that the Archbishop, the primate of the Church of Greece, will brief members of the standing Holy Synod – early next month – of his discussion with the country’s premier.
The current pandemic-related framework allows one worshiper per 25 square meters of indoor space in cathedrals and chapels, as today, Friday March 26, marks the second Friday of Great Lent and the second Salutations of the Theotokos.
As with previous Fridays, a “blue chip” committee of epidemiologists and public health experts will convene later in the afternoon to table recommendations to the Greek government regarding which restrictions should remain, be made stricter or even eliminated or curtailed.
