The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece on Tuesday continued his meetings with members of the new Greek government, as Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis was the latest Cabinet member to be received by the Archbishop at the Athens Archdiocese.
The new ministry leadership has previously announced that boosting pilgrimage and religious tourism is among its priorities. The latter has dramatically increased in Greece over recent years.
One initiative being promoted by the ministry is to create a joint Church-tourism ministry committee.
In a related development, members of the Church of Greece’s synodical office for pilgrimage departed on Tuesday for St. Petersburg, in order to participate at an international tourism exhibition in the northwest Russian metropolis.
