In the day’s news, the new Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, continued to tour the island continent this week, fulfilling his promise to visit every corner of the country where a Greek Orthodox community exists.

On Saturday, His Eminence will be in the metropolis of Melbourne, touring various parishes, communities and foundations established by Greek Australians and Cypriot-Australians.

He will also meet with Victoria State’s political leadership and representatives of expatriate groups.

In his statement on the occasion of Makarios’ visit to Melbourne, the Orthodox Bishop of Dervis, His Grace Ezekiel, spoke to the Internet edition of the Greek-Australian newspaper Neos Kosmos, saying, characteristically,

“… It is the first time Archbishop Makarios will be visiting Melbourne, which is certainly the Australian city most densely populated by Greeks.

Our dearly departed Archbishop Stylianos always characterized Melbourne as having a Greek manner, and now, our new Archbishop is coming to see our Greek Melbourne; to see the Greek community … to see the way we continue to live as Greek Orthodox Christians, with deep faith and pronounced love for our homeland.”
