Hierarchs participating in the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops of France, under the chairmanship of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople’s Metropolitan of France, His Eminence Demetrios, expressed their firm and unwavering opposition to a draft bill related to the prospect of euthanasia.
Meanwhile, thousands of people took to the streets of Paris on Sunday to protest against the prospective legalization of assisted suicide, as well as the inclusion in the French Constitution of the right to abortion.

According to protest organizers, roughly 20,000 people participated in the March for Life.

The French Senate will consider the controversial draft bill in early February.

In an announcement, the assembly of bishops refers to “…concern on the part of Orthodox Christians, who view this issue as not only a change in the legal framework, but in the system of values. Legalization of euthanasia opens the way for the right to murder.”
