Members of the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece convened on Wednesday for a second straight day.

According to reports, hierarchs on Tuesday focused on instances of non-compliance with pandemic-related restrictions on public assembly during last week Epiphany services, as well as the fines imposed by Greek authorities on clerics and members of the laity.

Additionally, members of the Holy Synod considered the issue of restrictions imposed on the holding of the sacraments of marriage and baptism, although the state allows civil ceremonies with a limited number of guests and the name registrations at municipal registrars.

The Church of Greece, in fact, has taken recourse to the Council of State, the highest administrative court in the country, to overturn this unequal treatment.
