Church of Greece Holy Synod elects two new Metropolitans

Members of the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece on Thursday elected new Metropolitans for the vacant ecclesiastical jurisdictions of Gortynia and Megaloupoli, in southern Greece’s Peloponnese province, as well as for the Metropolis of Aetolia and Akarnania, in western Greece.

Archimandrite Nikiforos Eustathiou was elected as the new Metropolitan of the former, succeeding reposed Metropolitan Jeremiah.

Archimandrite Damaskinos Kiametis was elected as the new Metropolitan of Aetolia and Akarnania.

Sessions, presided over by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, will continue on Friday, with the election of new Metropolitans for the Metropolis of Drama and the Metropolis of Ilia, respectively.
