The Cincture of the Theotokos, known as the Haghia Zoni, or Holy Sash, in Greek, on Tuesday morning morning was conveyed from the St. Nicholas monastic estate of Porto Lagos, in extreme northeast Greece, to the military base of Apostolidi, near the city of Xanthi, for veneration. The Holy Sash will then be conveyed to the Monastery of Assumption of the Virgin Mary, in the village of Makri, outside the city of Alexandroupolis.

A Divine Liturgy at the St. Nicholas chapel on Tuesday was presided by the Metropolitan of Xanthi and Peritheriou, His Eminence Panteleimon.

“May the Panaghia (the Blessed Virgin Mary) envelop, bless and support our exalted people,” the Metropolitan said in his sermon, while he also thanked Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, for conveying the Haghia Zoni to Porto Lagos for its veneration by the faithful.
