Members of the Executive Committee of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States issued a statement regarding the ongoing violence that erupted in many cities around America, and in the wake of the shocking death of African-American George Floyd last week in Minneapolis.
The Bishops expressed their dire concern and deep sorrow over the recent turmoil, while calling for a minute of silence to be observed for all the victims of racism.

On Friday, in response to growing tensions across the United States, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros issued the following statement on social media, saying “…The unjust slaying of George Floyd cannot be where America stands. Violence only breeds violence, but when such violence is perpetrated by those in authority, we must all stand up and say: ‘Not on our watch!’ We must stand against racism and stand for equality for all.”
