Work on the Romanian Orthodox Church in Legnago, Italy, has advanced swiftly since Bishop Siluan of Italy blessed the foundation in July. Although the parish was established in 2011, the approximately 600 Romanians in the area have not had their own place of worship.

Since August 1, construction has focused on the structural walls, the bell tower, and the roof. This year’s plans include completing the structure and exterior walls and roofing the church with an innovative bituminous shingle system covered with copper sheeting.

The wood for the construction is sourced from Romania and processed beforehand. The church, dedicated to St. Charalambos, is being built with support from the Department for Romanians Abroad through a project symbolically titled “On a Mountain Meadow, by a Heavenly Haven.”

Gheorghe Florin Cârciu from the Department for Romanians Abroad, Paolo Longhi, the mayor of Legnago, and former local officials attended the foundation blessing ceremony.

The church’s land was purchased in 2018 and is located on Ghiaccia Street. Until the new church is completed, divine services are held at 5 Don Bosco Street, Legnago.
