More reports of persecution of Christians in the predominately Muslim country of Eritrea, in the Horn of Africa, were reported this week.

According to the website opendoorsusa more than 30 Christians were arrested over the last few days, following another 141 arrests weeks ago, with most of those arrested being women in the capital of Asmara.

The disturbing reports cite police raids of homes where Christian worship, mostly by Evangelical or Pentecostal believers, is being held. Many of those detained are threatened with continued incarceration and violence unless they recant their faith, according to numerous media sources, including the BBC, as well as compiled reports by international organizations.

The impoverished country’s prison system has been described as brutal, with the frequent use of torture against Christians also widely reported.
