Α 34-year-old local man was charged with aggravated theft after police arrested him for the break-in of a Church on the Ionian island of Lefkada. Precious offerings were found on his possession, which police said were taken from the St. Catherine cathedral on the island.
The incident comes as reports over the recent period point to an increase in the number of burglaries of Churches and Chapels in the predominately Christian Orthodox nation of 11 million.
