The Very Reverend Archimandrites Tychikos Vryonis and Ioannis Ioannou, along with His Grace Bishop Nikolaos of Amathountos, emerged as the trio of candidates in a lay election on Sunday for the new Metropolitan of Paphos. Hierarch members of The Church of Cyprus’ Holy Synod will now decide the new Metropolitan from among the three candidates.
The final turnout announced from among the total number of eligible voters was near 26 percent. Archimandrite Tychikos received a shade above 50 percent of the vote.
In a statement afterwards, His Beatitude Archbishop Georgios of New Justiniana and All Cyprus, said the Holy Synod will convene on Thursday to validate the ecclesiastical election result, while a new session will be announced for the election of a new Metropolitan of Paphos by the Holy Synod.
