An announcement today by the Church of Greece’s standing Holy Synod said decisions over changes, proposed by the current government to revise Church-state relations, as well as the issue of Autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be referred to an extraordinary session between March 19 through March 21.
High on the agenda of the upcoming Holy Synod session will be the government’s insistence to change the payroll regime for clerics in the country, with Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos II, saying the latter will be the primary topic of discussion.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Greece spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency, where he added that “our clergymen are the ones most interested”.
Hierarchs of the Holy Synod were also briefed, via a report, composed by members of a special committee established to discuss Church-state relations with the government.
