Today marks the dour one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a full-scale attack that violently ended decades of relative stability in Europe.
The ripple effects of the invasion, which started in the early hours of Feb. 24, 2022, upended global energy markets, caused inflation around the world and a surge in defense spending in Europe and North America.
Hundreds of thousands of people are casualties, both civilians and military, with several Ukrainian cities flattened and millions turned into refugees. Additionally, numerous monuments have been destroyed, including places of worship.
