ECHR ruling prevents deportation of Afghan Christian convert by Swiss authorities

A ruling by the European Court of Human Rights this month, which stopped the deportation, from Switzerland, of an Afghan Christian convert, may serve as a precedent for the protection and rights of Christians in the Middle East and other countries where Christians face persecution. According to the court’s ruling, the Christian man would have faced serious danger if forced to return to the predominately Sunni Muslim and strife-plagued country.

Courts in Switzerland had upheld the deportation order.

Nevertheless, the Strasbourg-based European Court ascertained what it called omissions by Swiss lower and appellate courts.
