The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, early Tuesday afternoon is scheduled to meet in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as the Turkish leader has invited practically all religious leaders in the predominately Muslim country to announce “decision” regarding human rights, religious entities’ jurisdictions, as well as the significant issue of religious institutions’ assets and charitable organizations, known as “vakufs”.
Abuses of human rights and religious freedom in Turkey under the Erdogan regime has cast shadows on relations between Ankara and the EU, as well as US-Turkey relations.
