The Archbishop of Canada, His Eminence Sotirios, officiated at the Divine Liturgy on the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee, at the historic St. George the Great Martyr Cathedral in Toronto.
During a subsequent memorial service, Archbishop Sotirios commemorated the name of Bishop Christoforos, who reposed in the Lord two years ago.
The service came amid an auspicious decision by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to honor distinguished Greek Orthodox faithful of Canada with the title “offikion of the Archon of the Ecumenical Throne”.
Among those honored with the distinction are attorneys Nicholas Kapelos and Christopher Tzekas, who have made significant and long-standing contributions to their local Greek Orthodox communities, as well to the Archdiocese in Canada.
Following the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Sotirios presided over the investiture of the new Archons.
