Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I officiates at annual memorial at ‘Closed Gate’ for martyred Patriarch Gregory V

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Sunday officiated at the annual memorial service at the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Closed Gate, the place where national martyr Patriarch Gregory V was hanged by the Ottoman Turks on April 10, 1821, based on the Julian calendar.
His All Holiness was accompanied by clergy of the Patriarchal court, as He lit a candle, laid spring flowers, and prayed for the Church and the Nation, invoking the grace and the intercessions of his Holy predecessor.
