On the afternoon of Wednesday, 1 October 2025, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited the Venizelos Metro Station in Thessaloniki, where he admired the remarkable archaeological findings uncovered during the construction of this major public project.
The Patriarch and his entourage were briefed by Mrs. Elisavet Tsigarida, Archaeologist and Head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki City, about the archaeological site located within the station. The site includes remains of earlier building phases of Thessaloniki, dating from the Hellenistic period onward.
