The memory of 16th century St. Jeremiah was commemorated at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople for the first time on Friday.
Patriarch Jeremiah I was canonized this week with a decision by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, with joy and satisfaction expressed by the clergy and laity of the Holy Metropolis of Ioannina, in northwest Greece, as the Saint hailed from the historic mountainous village of Zitsa.

On the occasion, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I received a letter of thanks from the resident Metropolitan of Ioannina, His Eminence Maximos and the mayor of Zitsa.
