The Church of Greece’s Elder Metropolitan of Ilia, Germanos, reposed on Tuesday night at the age of 91.
The late hierarch had served as the Shepherd of the specific Metropolis in southwest Greece for 41 years, retiring in August 2022.
An exodios funeral service will be held tomorrow, Thursday, at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, in the city of Pyrgos, in the presence of Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, and many other hierarchs of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece.
The body of Metropolitan Germanos will lay in state today at the same cathedral, which will remain open throughout the day and overnight, with services and Gospel readings conducted.
An Archieratical Vesper was held in the afternoon, officiated by the reposed hierarch’s successor, His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios.
