Scores of Orthodox faithful, Church hierarchs, lay people and dignitaries of the Greek American community greeted new Archbishop-elect of America Elpidoforos on Wednesday, upon his arrival at the JFK airport in New York City.
Several dozen children, dressed in traditional Greek attire, were also on hand to welcome the new Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America.
All of the members of the Holy Eparchial Synod of America were at the airport, while the Metropolitan of Atlanta, His Eminence Alexios, accompanied Elpidoforos on his flight from Turkey.
The Metropolitan of Boston, His Eminence Methodios, headed the Church delegation at the airport, as the most senior of the hierarchs of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, while the general consuls of both Greece and Cyprus were present.
In a brief statement, the Archbishop-elect expressed his gratitude for the very warm welcome.
Later in the evening, Elpidoforos met with his predecessor, Elder Archbishop, His Eminence Demetrios.
