Today, 20 August / 2 September 2026, an Emergency Assembly convened under the Presidency of His Beatitude, our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, with the main subject being the state of health of Elder Chrysostomos, Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan, as well as the appropriate provision for the uninterrupted functioning of the Holy Monastery during the period of his absence.
During the Assembly, information was provided concerning the state of the Elder’s health, and His Beatitude’s particular paternal concern, together with the love and support of the Fathers, was expressed. At the same time, fervent supplications were offered unto God for his health and strengthening, that the grace and mercy of the Lord might protect and strengthen him during the present trial.
Furthermore, for the preservation of good order and the safeguarding of the smooth functioning of the Holy Monastery, it was decided to establish a three-member Committee, consisting of His Eminence Metropolitan Hesychios of Capitolias, Patriarchal Commissioner; the Elder Dragoman, Archimandrite Matthaios; and Archimandrite Christodoulos, Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod.
To the aforementioned Committee was entrusted, under the blessings and directions of His Beatitude, the temporary care and supervision of the affairs of the Holy Monastery in general, to ensure its uninterrupted functioning, the preservation of monastic order, and the proper settlement of every matter that may arise, throughout the entire period during which Elder Chrysostomos is unable to exercise his duties.
The Assembly concluded in prayer and with fervent wishes for Elder Chrysostomos, that the Lord, the Physician of souls and bodies, may overshadow him with His grace, grant him strength and consolation, and encompass him with His boundless mercy and loving-kindness.
