Following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy officiated by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, the faithful of the Parish of St Nektarios in Dianella gathered in the adjacent conference room of the Perth Diocese for a heartfelt community luncheon held with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia on Sunday the 20th of July.

The event brought together clergy, young families, and parishioners in a spirit of fellowship and shared purpose—to raise much-needed funds for the ongoing needs and ministries of the church.

In a particularly moving moment during the luncheon, His Grace Bishop Elpidios, on behalf of the parish, presented a beautiful bouquet of flowers to Presvytera Marina Athanasiou in honour of her recent name day. The gesture was met with warm applause, reflecting the parish’s love and appreciation for Presvytera Marina’s quiet but vital role in parish life.

Joining His Grace were the parish priest, Fr John Athanasiou, as well as Fr Theoklitos Tsahouridis, both of whom took the opportunity to engage with parishioners, young and old. The presence of numerous young families highlighted the living continuity of the Orthodox faith in Perth, as the next generation was visibly embraced and encouraged within the life of the Church.

The luncheon was not only an opportunity to support the parish financially but also a joyful extension of the liturgical celebration—a time to build bonds, express gratitude, and reflect on the blessings God continues to pour upon the faithful.

As the Church of St Nektarios continues its mission of spiritual growth and community service, events such as this remind us that the Church is not just a building, but a family in Christ.
