The feast day services and commemorations for Irene the Great martyr began in the western port city of Patras on Wednesday, with the procession of the Holy Icon of the Saint exiting the dedicated Cathedral in the city, where the Holy Relics of Irene the Martyr are preserved.
An Archieratical Divine Liturgy was held on Thursday morning, officiated by the Metropolitan of Patras, His Eminence Chrysostomos, with a Great con-celebratory Vesper and the breaking-of-bread ceremony conducted in the afternoon, officiated by Archimandrite Andreas Theodoratos.
The memory of St. Irene was also venerated in a dedicated church in the Nea Kios township, in the eastern Peloponnese, with an archieratical Vesper celebrated on Wednesday afternoon, officiated by the Metropolitan of Arta, His Eminence Kallinikos, and the resident Metropolitan of Argolida, His Eminence Nektarios.
A procession of the miracle-working icon of St. Irene of Nea Kios followed outside the church.
