With particular splendour, the Feast of the Holy and Glorious Great Martyr George the Trophy-bearer was celebrated at the historic Patriarchal Monastery of Saint George Koudounas, on the Princes’ Islands, where the Athonite Hieromonk Fr Ezekiel resides in ascetic life.
The sacred services of Vespers and the Divine Liturgy, on 22 and 23 April, were celebrated and presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Andreas of Arkalochori, Kastelli and Viannos.
The Holy Monastery is bound to centuries of tradition and piety, having as its founder Emperor Nikephoros Phokas.
Especially striking is the large number of pilgrims who gather there, including thousands of Muslims, who ascend to the monastery offering votive offerings, lighting candles, and in this way expressing their reverence for the Saint.
