The sacred commemoration of Saint Kosmas the Aetolian was celebrated with due splendour at the Holy Monastery dedicated to him in Kolkondas, Albania, where the Saint’s tomb is located.
On the principal feast day, Monday, 24 August, a Festal Hierarchical Concelebration was held, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolaos of Apollonia and Fier. Concelebrating with him were His Eminence Metropolitan Astios of Berat, Vlora and Kanina, and His Grace Bishop Ignatios of Amantia, who also delivered the homily.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the holy Icon and relics of the Saint were carried in procession, with the participation of the pilgrims who had gathered at the Holy Monastery.
It is noted that the Monastery of Saint Kosmas in Kolkondas was constructed between August 1813 and June 1814. The following inscription appears externally upon the apse of the Holy Altar:
“THIS DIVINE AND SACRED CHURCH WAS ERECTED FROM ITS FOUNDATIONS BY THE COMMAND AND EXHORTATION OF HIS HIGHNESS, VIZIER ALI PASHA OF TEPELENE.”
