A feature is posted this week on the webpages of the Orthodoxia News Agency on the ecclesiastical museums of Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, Siatista, the Monastery of Panormitis on the Dodecanese island of Symi, in northeastern Komotini as well as the exhibitions of the stunning Great Meteoron Monastery in the eponymous site of Meteora, in central Greece.
The feature comes on the occasion of International Museum Day, which in Greece was celebrated with the free entry into the country’s numerous museums and archaeological sites on Saturday.
As per a 1977 law, ecclesiastical museums in the country are jointly maintained by the Greek state and the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece.
