A reverse countdown has begun for the election of a new Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus. On Friday, 942 ballot boxes will be delivered to an equal number of polling stations in the free areas of the island.
A 40-day memorial service for the repose of the soul of Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus will be solemnly held on Saturday.
On Sunday, eligible voters, namely, citizens of the Republic of Cyprus and faithful of the Orthodox Church, will select three hierarch-candidates of the Church of Cyprus.
The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Church of Cyprus will then subsequently select the new Archbishop from among the trio of candidates to emerge from Sunday’s election.
