The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia, this week presided over the 58th mass baptism of infants at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Tbilisi.
With several Georgian Orthodox Church priests assisting, the Georgian Patriarch became the Godparent to 777 infants, while he is the Godparent now to more than 38,500 Georgian Christians.
Patriarch Ilia has promised to personally baptize the third successive child that Georgian couples bring to life, as part of an initiative since 2008 to counter the low birth rate in the Caucasus country.
