The ethnic Greek communities in Egypt are actively preparing for the Great Feast Day of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Ever Virgin Mary, celebrated on Thursday, August 15.
A major initiative to preserve and renovate historic Greek Orthodox cathedrals and to reinvigorate the Orthodox faith is underway in the ancient land, financed by the generous donations and active support of expatriate Greeks, and with the blessing of the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II.
The focus of Thursday’s Great Feast Day for the Orthodox faithful in Egypt will again be at the Basilica of the Virgin Mary, in Cairo’s Heliopolis district, presided by the Metropolitan of Memphis, His Eminence Nikodimos.
