Members of a relevant Greek Parliament committee on Thursday began deliberations on a series of proposals for constitutional revision in the country, proposals inherited from the previous Parliament plenum.
The previous Tsipras government, which was in power up until early July, had signaled its intent to enshrine the concept of religious neutrality for the Greek state — as well as to ensure the right for a person to take a civil oath.
Nevertheless, in a high profile statement this week, Parliament President Costas Tasoulas made it clear that the ruling party’s majority of deputies in the 300-MP Parliament will not back any revision of Article 3, which outlines Church-State relations.
