Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived on Thursday morning in the southern Albania coastal town of Himare, a predominately ethnic Greek district in the Adriatic country.
In statements to an enthusiastic crowd of local residents, Mitsotakis said it was a great honor to be the first Greek prime minister to visit the historic district.
Olympic weightlifting champion Pyrros Dimas, a native of Hirame, accompanied Mitsotakis on his tour of several districts of southern Albania where members of the indigenous ethnic Greek minority live, referring to a historic day.
Mitsotakis next visited the town of Livadhja, where he was welcomed by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
