In a deeply emotional atmosphere and in the presence of a large crowd, the funeral service of the distinguished academic Charilaos Platanakis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens, was held in his hometown, Heraklion.
The funeral took place on Thursday, 20 November, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Minas, with His Eminence Archbishop Evgenios of Crete presiding, and with the participation of His Eminence Metropolitan Andreas of Arkalochori and His Grace Bishop Methodios of Knossos.
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was represented by His Eminence Metropolitan Theodoros of Seleucia, Professor at the Higher Patriarchal Ecclesiastical Academy of Crete, who conveyed the patriarchal condolences to the family of the departed and spoke about the character and contribution of the late Charilaos.
Eulogies were delivered by Metropolitan Andreas of Arkalochori, Emeritus Professor of the Theological School of Thessaloniki; Professor Grigorios Molyvas, Chairman of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Athens; and Professor Maria Venieri, representing the University of Crete.
The burial took place at the New Cemetery.
