In the following video, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, the new Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, sends a message to the faithful.
The new Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, spoke to the Orthodoxia News Agency and journalist Maria Giachnaki this week, shortly before his departure from Greece and return to Sydney.
His Eminence Makarios, talked about his priorities for the Archdiocese of Australia, Hellenism on the island-continent and the Ecumenical Patriarch. Archbishop Makarios Griniezakis, who hails from Crete, also touched on the need for a Church hierarch to be educated and knowledgeable, but to also retain the ability of offering comfort to his congregation.

Archbishop Makarios was unanimously elected as the Archbishop of Australia by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 9 May 2019. He will be enthroned at the Archdiocese Cathedral of ‘The Annunciation of our Lady’ in Redfern at 11am on Saturday, 29 June.
