On May 24, 2019, His Grace Bishop Silvester launched the fight against HIV/AIDS and Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the Holy Diocese of Gulu and Eastern Uganda. This was done at St. Nectarios Orthodox Parish, Palaro in Gulu district where the Bishop was warmly received the Orthodox faithfuls in this community given the fact that it was his very first time to visit this place. The program of HIV/AIDS and GBV was spearheaded by the Uganda Orthodox Church Care for HIV/AIDS and Population program – UOCCAP. The provision of medical services was done with assistance from medical personnel from Gulu National Referral Hospital and sensitization on GBV enforced by representative from the Uganda Police Force and the area Community Development Officer (CDO).
