Members of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece’s Holy Synod on Monday officially accepted the resignation, announced last week, of Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aigialeia, His Eminence Amvrosios.
A day earlier on Sunday, the Metropolitan presided at the Or-thros, or daybreak service, as well as at the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Panaghia Faneromeni in the north Peloponnese city of Aegio. Amvrosios announced to the faithful that this would be his last Divine Liturgy as their Metropolitan.

According to media reports, members of the permanent Holy Synod also discussed, as expected, the contentious and complex issue of the granting of the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

The Church of Greece’s hierarchs also discussed a letter sent by the Church last month towards the justice ministry’s leadership concerning revisions to the penal code in the country.
In terms of timely Church-state relations, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, last week had consecutive meetings with the ministers of education and religious affairs, the finance minister, as well as the new chief of Greek Police (EL.AS) and the head of the “Greece 2021” commission.

Finally, other reports point to the submission of documentation on the canonization of reposed Priest Gevrasios Paraskevopoulos, submitted by the Metropolitan of Patras, His Eminence Chrysostomos.
