Today we bring to mind the two women, according to the more discerning interpreters of the Gospel, who anointed the Lord with myrrh. The first, a long time before Christ’s Passion; the other, a few days before. One was a harlot and sinner; the other, chaste and virtuous.
The Church commemorates this reverent act today. While mentioning here-in the person of the harlot, it also mentions Judas’ betrayal; for, according to the account in Matthew, both of these deeds took place two days before the Passover, on Wednesday.
The Pemptousia platform throughout this entire Holy Week will live-stream all services from the St. George Cathedral, in the Papagos district of east Athens. The Greek Byzantine Choir, under the direction Georgios Konstantinou, will perform the chants and psaltic complement.
At 19.00 today, 17.00 GMT, the Pemptousia platform will live-stream the Service of the Orthros of Holy Thursday.
