Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman who spent years on death row in the predominately Muslim country after being convicted of blasphemy, has left Pakistan, officials have confirmed.
Her conviction was overturned last year by Pakistan’s Supreme Court.
Bibi was originally convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the prophet Muhammad in an argument with her Muslim neighbors, claims that were never proven or substantiated.
She has always maintained her innocence.
Pakistani government officials did not reveal her destination, or say when she left, although her attorney told the BBC she has already arrived in Canada, where two of her daughters are understood to have been granted asylum.
